Annie Smith began her first term as the Assistant Coach Representative in January 2009. Smith is going into her 15th year as a collegiate assistant coach and her ninth season at Mississippi State University under head coach Jay Miller.
At MSU, Smith handles hitting and defense instruction, as well as coordinating travel and fund-raising efforts for the softball Bulldogs. MSU has qualified for postseason play in six of her eight seasons at the school.
Smith began her career as a volunteer for the the University of Missouri program under Miller and eventually became a graduate assistant for the Tigers. In 1999, Smith became and assistant at Missouri and in 2002 made the move with Miller to Mississippi State.
As a three-year letterwinner at Grinnell, Smith has a wealth of experience not only as a coach but also as a player. After graduating from Grinnell with a degree in history and psychology, Smith received a master's from the University of Missouri in health and exercise sciences with an emphasis in sports psychology.
