Kalafatis is serving her second term as Division I Representative. She recently completed her 12th season as head coach of the Ohio State softball program.
This past season, Kalafatis topped the 400-victory mark in Columbus. Overall, her 680 career wins come from three different career stops. In 2008, OSU saw a string of back-to-back NCAA tournament appearaces snapped by a first-round Big 10 tournament loss to Northwestern. Overall, Kalafatis has led OSU to NCAA tournament play four times.
Ohio State had a historic season in 2007; Kalafatis was named Big Ten Coach of the Year after the Buckeyes won their second Big Ten title. OSU finished with its first-ever perfect regular-season at home and then hosted and won its first Big Ten tournament to earn its first automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Ohio State is the third program Kalafatis has cultivated. Prior to her tenure at OSU, Kalafatis revitalized two struggling programs, first at her alma mater, California University of Pennsylvania, and then at the University of Akron.
A native of Bethel Park, Pa., Kalafatis’ was inducted into the California University of Pennsylvania Hall of Fame in the spring of 2001. |
