Marge Willadsen

Class of 1997

Buena Vista: 1981 - 2008

Marge Willadsen, a 1997 inductee into the NFCA Hall of Fame, was a staple of the Buena Vista University athletics department for three decades. The Iowa native led the softball team for 28 seasons, achieving a 569-447-2 career record before working solely in BVU athletics administration.

Retiring from softball in 2008, Willadsen closed out her career ranked eighth among Division III coaches in total victories (569), and helped guide the Beavers to the school's only team NCAA championship in 1984.

A four-time Iowa Conference Coach of the Year, and two-time NFCA National Coach of the Year, Willadsen coached 90 all-conference performers, including six IIAC MVP's, and saw 22 of her players earn All-American honors. Fourteen of her former athletes are now members of the BVU Athletics Hall of Fame.

Willadsen was also very involved in leadership activities during her career, serving on the NFCA Ethics Committee and the NCAA Sportsmanship Committee. In addition, she was a member of the NCAA Division III Softball Championships Committee. The Institute for International Sport named Willadsen a Sports Ethics Fellow in 1995, and she was inducted into the Buena Vista Hall of Fame in 2010.
