NFCA Division I All-Region and All-American Procedures

Selection of All-Region Teams

Nomination Procedure -- Available April 30; Deadline May 6, 5 p.m. Pacific

• Coaches of NFCA-member schools in good standing may nominate up to eight players from their own team to the all-region ballot.

• Schools must be considered Division I in good standing by the NCAA to be considered.

• A player may only be nominated for one position.

• The form must be filled out completely to be considered.

• The following guidelines will apply for each position, and strength of schedule will be considered:

Pitchers -- MUST HAVE PITCHED A MINIMUM OF 110 INNINGS

• Pitching stats are first consideration.

• Defensive stats are second consideration.

• Offensive stats are third consideration.

• Concerning baserunner statistics, the stats include stolen bases to stolen base attempts (SB/SBA) and on base percentages (OB%), which is any time a player reaches base safely following an appearance at the plate.

Defensive Positions -- MUST HAVE PLAYED 50 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL GAMES THAT THE TEAM PLAYED AT THE NOMINATED POSITION

• Defensive and offensive statistics will have equal weight.

• For catchers, stats include the number of stolen base attempts (SBA) and the number of times caught stealing (CS). A catcher will be credited with an SBA every time a runner attempts to steal a base. If the runner is caught stealing as a result of a throw, it is a CS. Pick-offs are a separate category.

• Concerning baserunner statistics, the stats include stolen bases to stolen base attempts (SB/SBA) and on base percentages (OB%), which is any time a player reaches base safely following an appearance at the plate.

Utility/Pitcher -- MUST HAVE PLAYED AT LEAST 50 PERCENT OF THE SCHOOL'S TOTAL GAMES AT TWO OR MORE POSITIONS, WITH AT LEAST 33 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL GAMES BEING PLAYED AT ONE POSITION.

• Defensive and offensive statistics will have equal weight.

• Defensive stats for each position played must be provided.

• Concerning baserunner statistics, the stats include stolen bases to stolen base attempts (SB/SBA) and on base percentages (OB%), which is any time a player reaches base safely following an appearance at the plate.

DP and Utility/Non-Pitcher --DP MUST HAVE PLAYED A MINIMUM OF 50PERCENT OF THE SCHOOL'S TOTAL NUMBER OF GAMES AT THE DP POSITION. UTILITY/NON-PITCHER MUST HAVE PLAYED AT LEAST 50 PERCENT OF THE SCHOOL'S TOTAL GAMES AT TWO OR MORE POSITIONS, WITH AT LEAST 33 PERCENT OF THE TOTAL GAMES BEING PLAYED AT ONE POSITION.

• All statistics must be included.

• Defensive stats for each position played must be provided (except for DP).

• Concerning baserunner statistics, the stats include stolen bases to stolen base attempts (SB/SBA) and on base percentages (OB%), which is any time a player reaches base safely following an appearance at the plate.

Balloting Procedure -- Available May 9; Deadline for voting May 13 at 5 p.m. Pacific

• Only NFCA member HEAD COACHES in good standing with the NFCA vote for the all-gegion teams. One ballot per institution may be cast.

• In order for your institution's nominees to remain eligible, you must vote.

• Coaches CANNOT vote for their own players on the regional ballot.

• The voting ballot must be COMPLETELY filled out. If all blanks are not filled in, then the ballot WILL NOT BE COUNTED. However, if less than three players are on the ballot for a particular position, it's permissible to vote for less. Again, do not vote for your own player, even if you will now vote for less than three.

• The voting ballot will only be counted if submitted by the deadline (May 13 at 5 p.m. Pacific).

• Each region will have first, second and third all-region teams comprised of 12 players per team: two pitchers, one for each infield position (1st, 2nd, 3rd, SS, C), three outfielders, one utility/pitcher and one DP or utility/non-pitcher.

• If there is a tie, awards will be awarded to each player involved in the tie.

• The NFCA membership voted at the 1999 convention to include conference pitchers and players of the year on the all-region second team if they do not get elected to either of the all-region teams. For 2013, a first team of 12 players and second team of 12 players will be selected for each region. The conference honorees, if not previously elected to one of the all-region teams, will be in addition to others selected, so the second team may have more than 12 players. The regional representative will be responsible for adding conference pitchers and players of the year to the all-region second team in their respective region (if not already selected).

• If you see a misspelled name for one of your players, please e-mail Lacy Lee Baker, This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , immediately.

Announcement of All-Region Teams

On May 14, the respective regional representative will tabulate the coaches' votes for his/her region and determine the all-region selections. All-region teams will be released to the schools on May 15 and will appear online on the NFCA's Web site by 10 a.m. CDT May 15.

Selection of All-American Teams

Regional representatives meet the Monday before the Women's College World Series in the WCWS host city to select the All-American First, Second and Third Teams. In 2014, the meeting will take place at 9 a.m. CDT May 26. The following guidelines are used in determining the teams:

Only players who were selected to all-region teams are eligible for consideration at the All-American level. It is the responsibility of the player's coach to get updated statistics (including game-by-game) on his or her All-American candidate(s) to the regional representative by Wednesday, May 21 (see Additional Requirements above). Conference tournament and regional statistics should be excluded, if applicable.

• The selection process is done by position. Each of the three teams at a determined position is selected before the committee moves on to vote for another position. For example, if the committee is looking at pitchers, the committee members a) vote in all the first team pitchers, b) vote in all the second team pitchers, c) vote in all the third team pitchers, d) move on to the next position.

• First, second and third team all-region selections may be eligible for first, second or third team All-American consideration; however, a region's first team selection must be selected prior to someone being moved up for consideration from the second team, and the same for second being selected before a third-team selection.

• The committee discusses each player on the ballot who has been brought to the table by the regional representative as a potential first team All-American. A vote is taken and the top vote getter represents the first team. The committee then discusses each player on the ballot who has been brought to the table as a potential second team All-American. A vote is taken and the top vote getter represents the second team. The process is repeated for selection to third team. If there is a tie, the committee re-discusses the individuals involved in the tie and re-votes until the tie is broken. Exception: If there is a tie at the third team All-American level, all players are awarded.

• Each All-American team is comprised of 18 players: three pitchers, one catcher, one first base, one second base, one third base, one shortstop, three outfielders, one utility/pitcher, one utility/non-pitcher, and five at large positions. At-large positions are nominated by the regional representatives.

Announcement of All-American Teams

The three All-American teams will be announced on the NFCA's web site at 4 p.m. CDT, Wednesday, May 28.
