NFCA Announces Keynote Speaker for 2006 National Convention

Award-winning sports journalist Christine Brennan will be the keynote speaker for the National Fastpitch Coaches Association’s 2006 national convention in Tucson, Ariz.

Brennan will address the NFCA membership Wed., Dec. 6, during the opening business meeting.

Brennan, who writes a weekly column for USA Today, is the most widely-read female sports columnist in the nation. She recently released the first father-daughter memoir written by a sports writer with Best Seat in the House: A Father, A Daughter, A Journey Through Sports (Lisa Drew Books/Scribner).

The memoir follows her best-selling figure skating book, Inside Edge. A noted sports television commentator for ABC News and ESPN, Brennan provides one of the leading voices on the Olympics, international sports, women’s sports and other sports issues.

Her extensive international sports coverage has carried her to the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Sydney and Athens, as well as the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Salt Lake City and Torino.

During her time covering the Salt Lake City Olympics, Brennan broke the news of the pairs figure skating scandal. In April 2002, her USA Today column sparked debate on the lack of female membership at Augusta National Golf Club. The column helped propel her into Sports Illustrated’s Golf Plus section as one of golf’s 12 heroes of the year.

Having covered 12 straight Olympic Games, she covered international sports for the Washington Post from 1984-96. In 1985 the Post made her the first woman to cover the Washington Redskins.
