Pima Tabbed Speedline/NFCA NJCAA Division I Coaching Staff of Year

Pima Community College head coach Stacy Iveson and assistants Candace Abrams, Rebekah Quiroz, Jenifer Martinez and Denise Ortiz have been named the 2006 Speedline/NFCA NJCAA Division II Coaching Staff of the Year, the association announced Wednesday.

Iveson and her assistants will be honored at the 2006 NFCA National Convention in Tucson, Ariz., Dec. 6-9.

Pima helped solidify the national honor as Iveson and her assistants led the squad to a second national title in three years. Pima, who finished the year 60-10, knocked off Gulf Coast Community College 3-2 in the national title game after advancing to the national tournament with a regional championship victory over Central Arizona, the 2005 national staff of the year.

The Pima staff was also recognized as West Region Coaching Staff of the Year. Other regional winners are as follows:

Midwest Region — Temple College
Head Coach — Larry Hennig
Assistant Coaches — Jim Eanes and Rainey Eanes

Hennig and the Temple staff led the squad to a 55-5 finish on the 2006 campaign. Temple, the top team in the NJCAA national poll for the first time ever, claimed the top seed at the NJCAA national tournament, where it finished fifth.

South Region — Indian River Community College
Head Coach — Dale Atkinson
Assistant Coaches — Joe DellaRocca and Kristen Atkinson

Atkinson and his staff guided the Lady Pioneers to a fifth straight berth in the NJCAA Division I national tournament. Indian River finished third at this year’s national tournament, ending the season with a 57-13 record.
