Louisville Slugger/NFCA NAIA All-Region Teams Named

Louisville Slugger/NFCA NAIA All-Region Teams 

NAIA national runner-up California Baptist was one of three teams with six players named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NAIA All-Region teams, the association announced Friday. 

Cal Baptist joined Lee University in the East region and Tiffin in the Great Lakes region with six players named to the regional squads. Evangel led the Midwest with five players tabbed all-region, while Oklahoma City and Morningside each had five players named to the Southwest region squad. 

California Baptist put pitchers Sarah Sherman and Candice Thomas on the first team along with catcher Tami Trujillo. Shortstop Chantal Millard was also named to the first team, while Nikki Lowe was tabbed to the second team. 

Another pair of standouts, Point Loma Nazarene and Simon Fraser, had five players named to the West region squad. Point Loma’s KC Robertson was tabbed first team along with shortstop Amy Nanson and utility selection Katie McColeman, and Allison Boeckelman and Ruth Atkins were named to the second team. Simon Fraser was led by first-team honorees Becky Hartley, Erin McLean, Erin Gee and Melanie Matthews. Meaghan Cumpstone was named to the second team. 

Tiffin, like Cal Baptist, put five players on the first team in the Great Lakes region. Pitcher April Nietrzeba was named to the first team along with first baseman Tracy Lehman. Outfielder Kristina Schweikert joined them on the first-team along with at-large selections Lauren Williams and Cyla Hawkins. Stephanie Orr was named second team all-region in the outfield. 

Lee’s six all-region selections included five first-team honorees and a second-team award. Catcher Bobbi Easter led the first-team selections, with second baseman Maranda Mounce, outfielder Jill Webb, and at-large winners Charli Duff and Kelly Golden joining her on the squad. Jay Hinton was named to the second team at third base. 

Evangel’s five all-region selections, including three first-team honorees, led the Midwest region. Pitcher Kimberly Williams was tabbed to the first-team squad along with at-large winners Kim Waltz and Jami Bauer. Kaylee Nelson and Stefanie Beaverson were tabbed to the second team. 

Oklahoma City and Morningside both had five players named to the Southwest region squad. OCU’s five players all came on the first team, led by the battery of pitcher Daria Shembereva and catcher Cat Calvert. Third baseman Jill Vaughn joined the first team along with shortstop Lelys Gomez and designated player Ursula Lundberg. 

Morningside put three players, outfielders Molly Moser and Alisha Krieg and at-large selection Whitney McElrath, on the first team,w hile second baseman Jenna Jurrens and third baseman Kendra Klein were tabbed to the second team. 

First team all-region performers were eligible for the Louisville Slugger/NFCA NAIA All-America Team, which will be released Friday afternoon.
