Lock Haven's Hughes Named Division II Player of Week

Lock Haven shortstop Courtney Hughes has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for the week of Apr. 24-30, the association announced Wednesday.

Hughes helped the Lady Eagles to a 4-0 finish to the regular season that pushed the team’s win streak to 32 games by hitting .750 (9-for-12) with three home runs, 13 RBIs and nine runs scored.

On Senior Day against Indiana (Pa.), the senior from Schwenksville, Pa., went 3-for-3 with six RBIs, and three runs scored, including a grand slam.

In the second game of the twin bill, Hughes sent 2-for-3 and added two more runs and three additional RBIs as she launched her one of her three round-trippers on the week.

In the regular season-ending doubleheader against Clarion, she sparked the Lady Eagles to a 30-0 margin in the two games by going 4-for-6 with a double, home run, two walks four RBIs and five runs scored.

Hughes is the second Lock Haven player to earn player of the week honors after Kristin Erb took the weekly accolade on Apr. 5.
