St. Thomas's Maria Bye Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week

St. Thomas sophomore Maria Bye has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for the week of April 17-23, the association announced Wednesday.

Bye led the Tommies at the plate and in the circle in a week in which they went 4-0 to remain atop the NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll for the fifth straight time. St. Thomas has now won the last 48 games they have played versus Division III opponents.

At the plate, Bye batted .539 with five runs scored, seven RBIs and two home runs in 13 at-bats. The four games on the week are part of a nine-game hit streak Bye is currently enjoying.

Bye also threw two shutouts for the Tommies, recording wins over Macalester and Concordia (MN). Both games were five-inning one-hitters that included a total of 20 strikeouts.

The Maple Plains, Minn., native is now 30-4 in her career as pitcher, and in 70 games as a batter has 74 hits and a .400 batting average with 10 home runs.
