Hunt, Britt Share Division II Player of Week Honors

Incarnate Word centerfielder Allison Britt and Armstrong Atlantic State first baseman Amber Hunt have been named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Co-Players of the Week, the association announced Wednesday.

Britt enjoyed a career week for the nationally ranked Cardinals, who went 6-0 on the week. The San Antonio native helped her squad to a school-record 38th victory with an 18-for-23 plate performance (.783 average) that included three triples, six RBIs and 12 runs scored. She was also 11-for-11 on stolen bases to cushion her single-season mark, but she added two more season records to her resume as she broke the marks for runs scored (51) and hits (79) in a four-game set against Lincoln (Mo.).

On the season she has a .454 average with 42 stolen bases.

Britt used speed to earn the national honor, while Hunt used power to receive this week’s accolade. The Greensboro, Ga., native tied a Peach Belt Conference record by homering in her fifth consecutive game, a three-run, bottom of the seventh blast that delivered the Pirates a 6-4 win over USC Upstate.

Hunt preceded that game-winning round-tripper with first inning, two-run home runs in the previous four consecutive contests. Hunt’s consecutive game home run tally tied the record set by Kennesaw State’s Cambria McKay in 2004.

On the week, Hunt hit .500 with four home runs, nine RBIs and a 1.429 slugging percentage. She currently sits in the conference lead with 54 RBIs, while her 11 home runs ties for first in the PBC.
