Washington-St. Louis Junior Laurel Sagartz Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week

Washington-St. Louis junior Laurel Sagartz has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division III Player of the Week for the week of Apr. 3-Apr. 9, the association announced Wednesday. 

2005 All-American Sagartz picked up three wins from the circle as the then 19th-ranked Washington University softball team notched victories over No. 25 Illinois Wesleyan (1-0) and the University of Chicago (5-4). The wins helped move the Bears up four spots to No. 15 in the latest NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll. 

From the rubber, Sagartz was impressive, striking out 30 in 20 innings of work. Against Illinois Wesleyan, she set a a new record with 17 strikeouts in a 1-0 win. 

Sagartz was also a big part of the offensive production for Washington-St. Louis, going 5-12 for a .417 average, including 3 RBIs. 

The Albuquerque, N.M., native sits at 12-1 on the year with a 0.25 ERA and is batting .303.
