Hollowell Tops Arizona Career Wins Chart

Arizona’s senior hurler Alicia Hollwell added to her impressive collegiate resume this past week as she claimed the top spot on UA’s all-time victories list.

Hollowell won her 125th career collegiate game in the Wildcats’ three-game sweep of No. 18 Baylor.

Perez Solid in Mobile’s NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic Win

NAIA powerhouse Mobile won the 2006 NFCA NAIA Leadoff Classic behind Mayret Perez’s hot bat.

Perez hit over .530 for the two-day tournament, including four home runs and 10 RBIs, to earn Most Valuable Player accolades.

Perez, Yriguyen Provide Pop for Mobile

In the Rams’ opening game of the tournament, Perez and Angelica Yrigoyen hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning, and followed by going yard consecutively in the fifth as well.

Yrigoyen’s round-trippers were a grand slam and three-run blast, respectively, giving her seven RBIs in the contest.

Speaking of Leaving the Yard….

Missouri-Rolla’s Holly Weinberg left the yard four times in a doubleheader sweep of Lincoln University.

The sophomore blasted the cycle in the two games, hitting a solo shot, a two-run blast, a three-run homer and a grand slam.

Nebraska Program Reaches Historic Milestone

The Nebraska softball program reached a milestone Sunday in its 1-0 victory over Kent State in the consolation championship game at the Florida State Invitational.

The two-hit shutout gave the 15th-ranked Huskers the 1,000th win in the program’s history.

Texas’ Streak Snapped

The University of Texas, ranked second in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 poll, had its 24-game win streak snapped on Mar. 9 by Texas State 2-1 in extra frames.

The game was the first extra-inning affair of the season for the Longhorns, and starting pitcher Meagan Denny had a 10-game win streak halted. The only other blemish on UT’s record came back on Feb. 11 in a 1-0 loss to No. 1 Arizona.

Tennessee and Oregon State have both won 21-straight games. The Lady Vols and Louisiana-Lafayette both sit undefeated on the season at 21-0 and 19-0, respectively.

Lady Vols Hurlers Make It Three-in-a-Row

The University of Tennessee Lady Volunteers scored 20 runs in the title game of the USF-adidas Invitational last weekend, but it didn’t need the hot bats in the previous three games leading up to that contest.

The Lady Vols advanced to the finale with no-hitters in three straight games against Tennessee Tech, Hofstra and host South Florida.

Monica Abbott and Megan Rhodes combined for a perfect game against Tennessee Tech, a day removed from joining together to no-hit Hofstra.

The Lady Vols out-scored opponents 75-0, and the hurlers moved their shut-out streak to nine straight games and 56 and two-thirds innings.

Tincher Sitting Opponents Down

Angela Tincher of Virginia Tech earned Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week honors after an amazing week that included handing Arizona State its first loss of the season.

In a game against Nevada, she struck out 26 batters, placing her third in NCAA history for single-game strikeouts. She finished the week with 75 strikeouts in 37 innings.

Central Freshman Makes Impressive Debut

Central College freshman Megan Swingen threw a shut-out in her collegiate debut for Central College. Swingen allowed seven hits with two strikeouts as the Dutch knocked off Greensboro College 1-0.
