Osterman Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of Week

Texas senior hurler Cat Osterman has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 20-26, the association announced Wednesday.

Osterman helped Texas to a 7-0 week and 17-1 overall record with a perfect 4-0 mark that included nine hits, one run, 67 strikeouts and just six walks over 27 and a third innings of work.

Two of her four victories came against ranked foes at the Palm Springs Classic, including an 18-strikeout, three-hit shutout against Arizona. The 1-0 win over the Wildcats tied head coach Connie Clark’s squad with Arizona State for a national-best 15-game win streak.

Against UNLV she hurled three innings and registered seven strikeouts. The final strikeout moved the Houston, Texas, native past former Southern Mississippi standout Courtney Blades to the top of the NCAA career strikeouts list.

Osterman also led the Longhorns to victories over Fresno State and sixth-ranked Stanford. Against FSU, the lefty picked up the win in relief as she pitched three and a third innings of perfect softball with six strikeouts.

She went the distance in earning her second victory over the Cardinal, scattering four hits and striking out 16 with just one walk. She opened the week with a complete-game one-hitter against Texas-San Antonio that included 20 strikeouts, a school record for a seven-inning game.
