Wilson Sports Renews as NFCA Corporate Teammate, Official Ball

Wilson Sporting Goods Company, manufacturer of the official ball of the NCAA, has renewed its Corporate Teammate agreement with the NFCA for another three years.

The Chicago, Illinois, company is designated the "Official Ball" of the NFCA. As an NFCA Corporate Teammate, Wilson sponsors the NFCA Leadoff Classic, the National Convention and the Wilson Golf Scramble, as well as the NFCA Recruiting Camps. Wilson is credited with pioneering the use of optic yellow leather balls with bold red stitching. Through years of research, Wilson has discovered that (1) the optic yellow leather is measurably brighter than white; (2) red stitches offer the maximum contrast possible against the yellow cover;(3) fielders, batters, umpires can see the optic yellow ball with contrasting stitch color better than white, and (4) in field-testing, brightness and contrast were the reasons that 78 percent of field-testers preferred to use optic yellow over white.

This year, Wilson's collegiate ball (the A9010-SST) features even more of a raised seam to give pitchers a better grip on the ball. "We talked to a lot of pitchers before making the change, and that's what they wanted," said Dave Pollock, Wilson Softball and Baseball Business Manager. "This may be one of the few times a manufacturer has made a design change to create more defense in the game." The Super Seam Technology (SST) is a patented design and manufacturing process that Wilson says gives its balls the highest seams on the field. SST seams are 20 percent higher than the leading competitors, resulting in a ball that Wilson believes is easier to control.

The SST was designed by a team of expert players and coaches to create the best feeling, best playing ball on the field. Overall, Wilson offers 14 different optic yellow red-stitch fastpitch softballs for all levels of play. Besides the NFCA, Wilson's A9011 ball is the official fastpitch ball of 18 state high school associations. Optic yellow with red stitches is approved by the ISA, USSSA, NSA, American Softball Association, Bobby Sox, Little League Softball, Dixie League Softball, and just this past November was approved by the ASA for use in that organization's national championships.

Besides balls, Wilson manufactures fastpitch gloves designed specifically for the female fastpitch athlete. Based on work with youth players and Olympic Gold Medalist Dani Tyler, extensive pattern modifications have been designed to meet the needs of the most demanding of fastpitch players.

The gloves and mitts feature a smaller hand opening and narrower finger stalls to accommodate the smaller hand. In addition, the innovative Dual Stall feature provides the option of placing two fingers in the pinkie stall for maximum control and better closure. The DFS-FP gloves feature the Wilson patented Dial Fit System custom fit technology that enhances glove control by custom fitting each glove to the athlete's hand.

The Wilson line of equipment bags offers unique styles, features and graphics. They feature premium, rugged durable material with heavy duty YKK zippers. They'redesigned with larger pockets, greater storage capacity, separate bat storage, huge wet/shoe compartments and padded shoulder straps.
