Schmidt Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week

Concordia-St. Paul's Kristen Schmidt has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for the week of April 4-10, it was announced by the association on Wednesday. 

Schmidt, a junior from Cottage Grove, Minn., had an outstanding week for the Golden Bears. At the plate, she went 9-for-20 (.450) and in the circle, she went 4-0 and compiled a 0.23 ERA in five appearances. 

Against South Dakota State, Schmidt tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout of the Jackrabbits. She went 1-for-1 at the plate to help her cause. She followed up her win with a 1-for-2 performance in the second game of the doubleheader. 

The next day, she scattered five hits and struck out 10 in another complete game win over SDSU. She gave up her lone earned run of the week in a win win over Minnesota State where she scattered five hits and struck out 10. At the plate in that game, she went 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored. 

Schmidt struck out 15 in a two-hit, complete game shutout of Minnesota State-Moorhead and picked up a save by striking out six in just two innings pitched against Benidji State.
