Selden Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week

UCLA pitcher Anjelica Selden has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 28-March 6.

Selden, a freshman from Vacaville, Calif., tossed two no-hitters last week at the Bulldog Classic, including a seven-inning affair with then-No. 24 Fresno State.

In a 14-inning loss to Mississippi, Selden set a new Pac-10 record with 23 strikeouts in a single game. During the entire tournament, she struck out 70 of the 120 batters she faced while allowing just one walk.

For the week, Selden went 3-1 with four complete games, giving up just one earned run in her five appearances. She only allowed three runs total, all coming via the international tiebreaker runner in the extra innings of the 3-2 loss against Ole Miss. She was named to the Bulldog Classic All-Tournament team.

The 23 strikeout performance was also the 11th best single-game total in NCAA Division I history.

On the season, Selden is leading the fourth-ranked Bruins with a 9-2 record and a stellar 0.22 ERA. She has registered 173 strikeouts in just 93 2/3 innings pitched, and opponents are hitting only .116 against her.
