Kaitie Heintz Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week

St. Leo University pitcher Katie Heintz has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 21-27, it was announced by the association on Wednesday.

Heintz, a junior for Portland, Ore., went 5-0 last week, posting three shutouts, scattering just seven hits over 27 innings and striking out 41 while walking just one.

Against No. 9 North Florida, Heintz picked up a pair of wins. She came in relief during a scoreless game to pick up a 1-0 win over the Ospreys before pitching a complete game one hitter in a 4-0 win.

She tossed two more complete games against South region rivals North Alabama and Delta State, striking out eight and 11 opposing batters, respectively. She made another relief appearance against Lincoln Memorial, striking out eight in four innings of work to pick up a 1-0.

Twice this season Heintz has registered a school-record 17 strikeouts in a game. In 70 innings pitched, she has not surrendered an earned run and has struck out 126 batters.
