Osterman Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week
Texas pitcher Cat Osterman has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for the wek of Feb. 14-20, it was announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association today.
Osterman, a junior from Houston, Texas, tossed her 10th career no-hitter and her fifth career perfect game in a 4-0 victory at Texas State, her only outing of the week. She also fanned a season-high 17 batters in the win.
The perfect game helped move the ninth-ranked Longhorns to 5-0 on the season. Osterman (2-0) last tossed a perfect game on Feb. 8, 2003, a 4-0 victory over Fresno State and her last no-hitter came on March 5, 2003 in a 3-0 win over Texas-San Antonio.
The junior southpaw took the 2004 collegiate season off to pitch for the United States Olympic team, and helped guide the Red, White and Blue to a third consecutive gold medal in Athens.
For her career, Osterman has compiled a remarkable 70-14 record with a 0.64 ERA. She ranks 21st all-time with 1,087 career strikeouts, an average of 13.44 per seven innings pitched.
