Top Division I Player Performances, Week Ending Feb. 28, 1999

Lauren Bauer -- Arizona, Sophomore Outfielder 

Went 8-for-13, with six runs scored, a triple, 3 RBI and two stolen bases ... Unable to play left field for the past two weeks because of a shoulder injury ... She's been the DP.


Tarrah Beyster -- Oregon State, Pitcher

Beyster was named the MVP of the Troy Cox Classic ... Offensively, she hit .333, going 4-12 with three home runs, four runs and four RBI in six games ... Opponents walked her seven times, many intentionally ... On the mound, she posted a 1.18 ERA for a 3-0 record and one save ... She struck out 17 batters and walked just two in 23.2 innings of work ... She is now 10-1 on the year.


Courtney Blades -- Southern Mississippi, Pitcher

Pitching at the University of Alabama Bama Bash, Blades was 3-1 with 41 strikeouts in 20 innings pitched ... She threw two shutouts, one of which was a perfect game against Drake on Feb. 26 (7-0 USM win) with 15 K's ... She then pitched a one-hit shutout vs. Indiana on Feb. 27 (W 8-0), striking out 16 ... On Feb. 28, she pitched a combined no-hitter vs. McNeese St. (W 13-0) ... Blades started the game and pitched two hitless innings, striking out five ... At the plate, she hit .313 with five RBIs and a double.


Melissa Coronado -- USL, Pitcher

Coronado posted a 3-0 record in leading USL to the 1999 NFCA Leadoff Classic championship ... Named most valuable player in the tournament... Beat DePaul 2-1 in final game.


Joyce McMillin -- South Carolina, Utility, Sophomore

McMillin went 8-18 with two game-winning hits and one home run in the NFCA Leadoff Classic.


Stacey Nuveman -- UCLA, Catcher, Sophomore

UCLA catcher Stacey Nuveman became the Bruins' all-time home run hitter Sunday as she smashed a pair of round-trippers, leading No. 3 UCLA (18-0) to a doubleheader sweep of No. 13 Long Beach State, 6-1 and 7-0 ... Nuveman, only a sophomore, hit her 11th and 12th home runs of the season in game one, giving her 32 for her career at UCLA, topping the record held by Kim Wuest, who hit 30 from 1995-98. Nuveman was a perfect 2-for-2 in game one, finishing the day 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double and three RBI ... On Saturday, Nuveman tied the UCLA career mark when she hit her 30th in UCLA's 8-2 game-one victory over Sacramento State ... The Bruins went on to sweep the Hornets, taking game two 9-1 in five innings ... She finished the day 4-for-6 with a home run, a double and two RBI. In UCLA's four games on the week, Nuveman finished 7-for-15 (.466) with three home runs, five RBI, two doubles and three runs scored, helping the No. 3 Bruins remain unbeaten.


Jordanne Nygren -- Minnesota, Second Base, Freshman

In the month of February, Nygren hit .357 (20-for-56) with eight home runs and 21 runs batted in ... Nygren hit home runs in her first two collegiate at bats at the Metrodome Softball Classic on Feb. 12 against Western Illinois. Nygren made the all-tournament teams at the Metrodome Softball Classic and the Troy Cox Softball Classic, played this past weekend in Las Cruces, N.M. ... With her eight home runs, Nygren is already fourth on Minnesota's single-season list and fifth on Minnesota's career list ... Nygren helped lead Minnesota to a 12-game winning streak, tying the school record, and the Triangle Classic co-championship earlier this month in Raleigh, N.C. ... The Gophers are 15-4 after 19 games in 1999.


Peggy Swift -- Troy State, Right Field, Freshman


Troy State freshman rightfielder Peggy Swift (Sunrise, FL) had an outstanding week for the Lady Trojans as she was 14 for-21 (.667 AVG) at the plate in 8 games ... She added 8 singles, 3 doubles and 3 triples for a slugging percentage of (1.095) and had an on-base percentage of .809 ... She added three RBI and scored 8 times ... She also contributed with her speed as she was perfect on the base paths stealing 3 bases in 3 attempts ... In the Troy State Invitational on the weekend Peggy was 11-for-15 and was named to the All-Tournament Team ... She currently has a 9 game hit streak for the Lady Trojans ... On the season in 16 games she is 22-for-36 (.611 AVG) and has a slugging percentage of .861 and an on base percentage of .806.


Kendra Wood -- Cal Poly SLO, Catcher

The Orange, CA native out of Villa Park HS was instrumental in the Gauchos' success this weekend ... Wood was 6-for-10 (.600) in UCSB's four games, while clubbing her first two homers of the season, driving in five runs, and scoring three ... Wood also knocked a double ... The catcher amassed a slugging percentage of 1.300 for the week. She also threw out all four opponents who attempted to steal bases. UCSB defeated Virginia Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and lost to Texas A&M Saturday ... Friday and Saturday's games were part of the UCSB-Easton Invitational.


Jessica Yanosy -- Connecticut, Shortstop, Sophomore

Hit 9-for-14 (.643) in the first five games of the season (all this week at the NFCA Leadoff Classic). Hitting .500 on the year (9-for-18, six games). Has three RBI, two runs scored, and two stolen bases. Hit 3-for-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI vs. Missouri, hit 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in win over Boston College, hit 2-for-4 vs. Louisiana State.
