Leadoff Classic champion LSU placed three players on the 2004 NFCA Leadoff Classic All-Tournament team including Most Valuable Player Kristin Schmidt.
Schmidt was named the tournament’s most outstanding player after posting four wins and four complete games. The senior from Houston, Texas helped lead the Tigers to three wins over four teams ranked among the nation’s top 11, including third-ranked California, No. 4 Washington, No. 6 Georgia and No. 11 Florida State.
Lauren Castle and Stephanie Hill were at-large selections for the Tigers. Castle delivered two RBIs in LSU's 4-3 win over Florida State in the championship game.
The Seminoles garnered four All-tournament team honors, led by Jessica van der Linden and Casey Hunter. Hunter went 3-1 for FSU, while van der Linden shined not only in the circle, but at the plate. Tatiana George belted a walk-off home run in the ninth inning to defeat South Carolina in the semifinal. Natasha Jacob completed the Seminoles' All-tournament honorees in the outfield.
Fresno State's Jamie Southern went 3-0 and did not allow an earned run as the Bulldogs won three games in Columbus. Oklahoma's Heather Scaglione was named the catcher on the All-tournament squad.
Georgia's Michelle Green tossed the first perfect game in Leadoff Classic history, and her teammate Kim Wendland led the tournament in hitting. Notre Dame's Stephanie Nrown helped lead the Irish to the Silver bracket title and Phelan Wright led Arizona State to the Bronze championship.
Texas' Sarah Wieszczak and South Carolina's Meghan Cornett completed the team.
