It was a battle of the pitchers tonight as each side only allowed a total of five hits. Cat Osterman had 17 strikeouts (the most of any team in this tournament) and six of those were consecutive. Texas woke up the bats in the top of the sixth when Lindsay Gardner hit a leadoff double to right field followed almost immediately by her stealing third base. The next batter, Tina Boutelle, singled down the first base line that put runners at the corners. The third batter, Chez Sievers, grounded out to third, allowing Lindsay Gardner to score the game's only run. Osterman kept the Golden Bears at bay, striking out two in the bottom of the sixth followed by three of Cal's five batters in the seventh.

Texas will play the winner of game 10 Sunday at 2:30 p.m. CDT. California will play the winner of game 7 Saturday at 6 p.m. CDT.

WHAT THEY SAID

"We always talk about character and tonight it was a senior (Lindsay Gardner) who stepped up and made it happen on base. It was nice to lean on senior leadership. I have to give credit to Cal. They played like defending champs."  Texas head coach Connie Clark

"This was probably the best game I've had so far (career). I finally felt like I had my game from the first pitch. I mixed all five pitches well. I never think one run is enough, but I'll take it." ON PLAYING ARIZONA: "I just know that I have to mix it up with that team. I can't hang anything, especially with Lovie (Jung). We're really excited. We're not looking to the finals. We're not thinking we're one game from the finals, we're just taking it one game at a time." Texas pitcher Cat Osterman

"It's been a joke all year that the only reason people have trouble getting me out on base is because I'm not even sure what I'm doing."  Texas senior Lindsay Gardner

"It was a tough game. It was a pitcher's duel for a while. Unfortunately for us we were not able to come up with key hits. They did a great job."  California head coach Diane Ninemire

"She's got great movement. I don't know if she had her A-game, but she kept us off balance. (I think I was chasing pitches because) I was eager. I've never faced her before."  California first baseman Veronica Nelson on Cat Osterman
