Fans were not disappointed in the third game for each of these teams today as
both scored multiple runs in the first inning. In the top of the inning,
Illinois Wesleyan got on the board with two on walks from Jamie Palmer and
Stephanie Stephen and a single from Brynn Hasse. Kit Mason flew out to deep
center-field and one run scored, followed by a single to the pitcher from
Stephanie Hieser that scored another. Central answered immediately with a
leadoff base hit from Anne Legg. The next batter, Bri Kuyper singled and got
to second base on a bad throw. With runners at second and third, Kris Hughes
grounded to third base and one run was able to score when the third baseman
and the shortstop collided. With runners at the corners and no outs, Hughes
stole second. Katy Lein singled to left to tie it up, and Stef Miller
successfully laid down the sac bunt: With runners at second and third,
Central attempted the suicide squeeze. The runner was out at home, and the
batter tried to take second, but was caught in a run down. The runner at
second scored. Illinois Wesleyan tied it up in the third on singles from
Jamie Palmer and Colleen Schuster, followed by a Stephanie Stephen sacrifice
bunt and a Kat Mason walk. Stephanie Stephen hit a bases loaded single to
left to tie it. In the bottom of the third, Anne Legg hit a leadoff single to
center field, followed by a Bri Kuyper walk and an infield single by Katy
Lein to load the bases. Stef Miller singled to third, and although the runner
was out at third, the bases remained loaded. Another run scored on a Sara
Tuttle walk. Central continued to dominate in the fourth when Holly Edwards
had a leadoff single to third, followed by a single to left by Kristin Wares,
a sac bunt from Beth Peterson, and an intentional Anne Legg walk that loaded
the bases with only one out. Another Central run scored on a Bri Kuyper walk
that kept the bases loaded. Central padded its lead in the fifth on a three-run,
bases clearing double by Legg that brought the score to 8-3.
Salisbury will play Central in the championship game tomorrow at 10 a.m. EDT.

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN COACH BETH HASHEIDER ON THE GAME AND THE TEAM'S
first NCAA tournament appearance: "We just ran out of gas. We lost to two
great teams today. (Playing the early game) played a factor. We've had to do
it before in other tournaments, though. The toughest part is playing so many
innings. We like to play with our all, but I know they wear down. It's been a
great ride. When all is said and done, it's a great accomplishment. It's a
great way to cap off the year. I think we're right with the best of them."

CENTRAL HEAD COACH GEORGE WARES: "The win was a momentum builder. We needed
that. I was real disappointed with Miller. I could have wrung her neck
(joking). Our players bounced right back. We can hit, we're not a great
hittiing team, but we know what to do to advance runners. I hope (the
game against Salisbury) doesn't go the same way (as the first meeting did).
I'd rather be in their situation. When you have to sweep someone, they have
the advantage."

ANNE LEGG ON HER BASES CLEARING DOUBLE: "She brought it where I like it and
it just happened to clear the bases."
