In a highly anticipated and well-matched game that had been postponed since
Saturday evening, the first five innings went scoreless, but were certainly
not uneventful. Illinois Wesleyan loaded the bases in the bottom of the

attempt by Mason, Stephanie Hieser tried to stealsecond, but was picked off.
The bases were loaded again on a walk by Megan Pietrucha. Withthe bases
loaded and one out, Emory brought in Christine O'Brien who retired the
sideleaving the Illinois Wesleyan to strand three. Through the fifth inning,
Illinois Wesleyanstranded a total of eight runners with six in scoring
position. The defense, though, was on fire, as Kelly Murray struck out 10.
The game went scoreless through the seventhas this was the first extra
inning game of the tournament. Illinois Wesleyan scoredin the bottom of the
eighth on a hit by Nicole Williams, a sacrifice bunt from StephanieHieser.
Williams stole third and was able to score the winning run on a Kat Mason
grounder to third. Emory's Lauren Dix was forced to throw to first and

EMORY HEAD COACH PENNY SIQUEIROS ON THE GAME: "Illinois Wesleyan played a
super, super game. They put a lot of pressure on ourdefense. A lot more than
we put on theirs. They capitalized on our mistakes, and wedidn't create
enough scoring opportunities. We didn't adjust well."
ILLINOIS WESLEYAN HEAD COACH BETH HASHEIDER ON THE GAME:Emory is a great
team. We knew it would be tough, but we finally made a play when we needed
to. It was frustrating to leave so many runners on base. It was a little
less frustrating because Kelly pitched a wonderful game."
KELLY MURRAY ON HOW SHE PITCHED:I really had my A game. I think it helped
that I had two days off; it was nice to havelittle mini-warm ups (when the
game was postponed twice). Everything was working."
NICOLE WILLIAMS ON SCORING THE WINNING RUN:"It's very exciting. I was a
little scared, but I wasn't worried because she is my typeof pitcher."
