#6 Illinois Wesleyan (36-6) 106 001 1 -- 9-13-0
#3 Muskingum (42-3) 100 001 0 -- 2-4-1 Kelly Murray (Illinois Wesleyan) and Morgan Martin, Mindy Nash (3) (Muskingum)
WP - Murray (18-4) LP - Martin (15-1)

Illinois Wesleyan took a page from Central's book this afternoon as they
scored early in the first. Leadoff batter Brynn Hasse hit a double to
shallow left that sent the left fielder diving. Hasse advanced to third on a
Jamie Palmer sacrifice bunt. Colleen Schuster hit a single to short that
scored Hasse. The Fighting Muskies answered, though, with leadoff hitter Erin
Zupko's solo homer to left tieing the game in the bottom of the first. The
Muskie energy wouldn't last long, though, as Illinois Wesleyan got the
action going again in the top of the third - in the midst of light rain that
started in the top of the second inning and ceased in the third. Following a
single by Brynne Hasse, Jamie Palmer tripled deep to right field and scored
Hasse. Palmer scored on a squeeze bunt from Colleen Schuster that also left
Schuster safe at first. Stephanie Stephen and Kelly Murray singled, Murray
earning an RBI. Stephanie Heiser singled to second to load the bases. With
Kat Mason at the plate, Morgan Martin threw a wild pitch that scored one;
Mason walked to load the bases again. Morgan threw another wild pitch to
score Kelly Murray with Nicole Reed at the plate. Reed walked to load the
bases yet again. Megan Pietrucha loaded walked to load the bases - again -
after another run scored on a pass ball to bring the total number of runs
scored in the top of the third to six. IWU was hoping to score again in the
top of the fourth with a hit by Schuster, a walk by Stephen, and a sacrifice
bunt by Murray, but the inning ended on a line drive by Hieser hit to the
third baseman who tagged the runner going home and turned it around for a
double play at first. IWU's bats were strong through the top of the fifth
with hits by Mason, Pietrucha and Hasse; however, no additional runs scored.
Illinois Wesleyan scored one more run in the top of the seventh on a double
by Pietrucha to deep left, a single by Hasse and a line drive from Schuster.
Illinois Wesleyan will play again Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Muskingum advances
to the elimination bracket and plays at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

MUSKINGUM COACH DONNA NEWBERRY ON THE TEAM'S DEVASTATING LOSS: "I don't know
what happened. It was really a group effort. It started with the pitch that
scored the first run. It went downhill from there and we had a difficult
time stoping once we started (getting errors). Illinois Wesleyan played an
unbelievable game, though. I'm disappointed we didn't win."

ERIN ZUPKO ON HITTING A LEADOFF HOMER: "We never really feel like we're out
of the ball game even if we're losing, so one run didn't mean anything. I
really thought we would score more."

ILLINOIS WESLEYAN HEAD COACH BETH HASHEIDER ON: what went right: "The key is
that we came out aggressive and set the tone with a leadoff double. We were
relaxed and came out ready to play. We knew Muskingum is a good team. We were
on today. It's the most aggressive I've ever seen us."

KELLY MURRAY ON GIVING UP A HOME RUN IN THE FIRST INNING: "Well, the first
pitch of my first game of the season I gave up a home run. We've won a lot of
games this year with me giving up home runs. It doesn't bother me. We're used
to it as a good thing."

BRYNN HASSE ON HOW THE TEAM PLAYED: "We came into the tournament knowing we
had nothing to lose. We knew all we had to do is play our game and just do
our thing."
