NCAA announces Division II Regionals

The NCAA Division II Women's Softball Committee has selected the 48 teams that will participate in the NCAA Division II Softball Regionals beginning Thursday, May 8.

Six teams will participate in each of eight on-campus regional sites in double-elimination tournaments to determine the eight participants in the 2003 NCAA Division II Women's Softball Championship, to be held May 15-19 at the Wallace Sports Complex in Salem, Oregon.

Twenty-three of the 25 teams ranked in the last NFCA Division II Top 25 received bids to regional play. Top-ranked Barry will host the South Regional, No. 2 North Florida is hosting the South Atlantic Regional.

Third-ranked North Dakota State will host the North Central Regional while defending national champion and fourth-ranked St. Mary's will host the South Central Regional in San Antonio. No. 6 Grand Valley State is hosting the Great Lakes Regional and No. 9 LeMoyne plays host to the Northeast Regional.

Cal State-Bakersfield, ranked 13th in the latest poll, and No. 24 Shippensburg will host the West and Mid-Atlantic Regionals, respectively.
