Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week

Texas pitcher Cat Osterman has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Player of the Week for the week of April 28-May 4.

The sophomore from Houston's Cypress Springs High School was instrumental in leading the third-ranked Longhorns to back-to-back Big 12 Tournament titles. She pitched 26 of the possible 28 innings for Texas, including three complete games and did not give up a run.

In the tournament opener against Texas Tech, Osterman struck out eight in five innings while allowing just two Red Raider hits. She went the distance in a 1-0 win over then-No. 4 Oklahoma while retiring 15 batters on strikes. In the semifinal game with Nebraska, Osterman allowed two hits and struck out 11 as the Longhorns won 2-0.

Osterman struck out 10 and gave up just two hits in the rematch with Oklahoma for the championship. Texas won the game 1-0 and Osterman was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player for the second consecutive year.

Against Big 12 opponents this season, Osterman compiled a 14-1 record and an ERA of 0.07. Se gave up one earned run in 97 2/3 innings pitched.

This is Osterman's second Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week honor this season. Osterman shared the honor with Mississippi State's Iyhia mcMichael on April 1. She won the award twice during her freshman campaign in Austin.
