Pam Newton Named USA Softball Junior Women's National Team Coach

Pam Newton has been named head coach of the U.S. Junior Women's National Team, it was announced by USA Softball. Newton's first assignment will be to coach the U.S. at the first-ever Pan American Junior Women's Softball Championship in December. She would also serve as head coach at the ISF Junior WomenÕs World Championship in Nanjing, China, next summer if USA qualifies.

Newton has been coaching in the ASA Junior Olympic Program for the past 15 years and every one of her teams has qualified for the ASA National Championships each year. She currently heads up the California Lite program that fields teams from 18-under gold to the 14-under division.

A 17-player Junior National Team roster will be announced following the Junior Women's National Team Camp which takes place this Thursday through Sunday (October 3-6) at Arco Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. The team is scheduled to train December 7-12, then compete in the Pan Am Championship December 13-21 in Sonora, Mexico. The top five finishers earn berths to next summer's World Championship.
