Jennie Finch Wins Honda Award for Softball

For the second consecutive year, Arizona pitcher/first baseman Jennie Finch has been named the winner of the Honda Award for softball. She is once again a finalist for the Honda Broderick Award, presented to the top female collegiate athlete.

Finch set an NCAA record with 60 consecutive victories, dating back to the 2000 season. After posting a 32-0 mark -- also an NCAA record -- in 2001, she won her first 20 contests of this season. She finished the 2002 season with a 34-6 record and a 0.97 earned run average. She set a school record with 366 strikeouts.

Finch helped lead Arizona to a national championship in 2001 and a national runner-up finish in 2002.

The winner of the Honda Broderick Cup will be announced during ceremonies in Dallas, Texas, on June 17.
