Oklahoma City Wins Third Consecutive NAIA National Championship

Two errors in the top of the eighth inning led to the go-ahead run as Oklahoma City defeated Point Loma Nazarene 2-1 Wednesday in the championship game of the 2002 NAIA Softball National Championship at Kissimmee, Fla. The win gives Oklahoma City its third consecutive national championship and seventh in the last nine years. Lindsey Voss, who was named tournament Most Valuable Player, tossed a six-hitter and struck out nine for Oklahoma City.

The championship game was the second of the day between Oklahoma City and Point Loma Nazarene. Earlier in the day, Leslie Ludlow and and Miranda VanDerBoort combined on a four-hit shutout as Point Loma Nazarene defeated Oklahoma City 1-0. The win was the eighth in a row for Point Loma Nazarene at the tournament after a first-round loss. The runner-up finish marks the best-ever finish for Point Loma Nazarene.
