StrikeOut Cancer

The NFCA is in our second full year of the StrikeOut Cancer program, a project to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer. Many schools are setting one home date in April as "StrikeOut Cancer Day," during which they've collected money to donate to their local American Cancer Society.

Schools have used a number of activities for fund-raising, ranging from "passing the hat," to conducting raffles and auctions. Many teams have had fans pledge a particular amount for each strikeout or other statistical category (runs, hits, total bases, etc.). In addition to fund-raising, many schools have had special programs honoring cancer survivors and honoring the memory of those who lost their battle with cancer. Also, many local American Cancer Society chapters have set up booths at the ballparks with information on prevention and early screening.

If your school has held or intends to hold a StrikeOut Cancer Day, please e-mail the NFCA with information about your StrikeOut Cancer Day (amount raised, special programs, etc.). Participating schools and amounts raised will be posted on NFCA Home Plate on the Web and listed in the NFCA newspaperFastpitch Delivery.

The NFCA thanks all the schools who have participated in or plan to participate in StrikeOut Cancer.
