NJCAA Region 8/FCAA Sophomore All-Star Showcase Slated

WHEN: Saturday, October 27, 2001

WHERE: Osceola County Softball Complex, Kissimmee, Florida

WHAT: Sophomores from Florida's Community Colleges will participate in a skills showcase and six All-Star games.

WHAT WILL THE ALL-STAR SHOWCASE INVOLVE? Each of the four conferences will send an all-star team composed of the three top sophomores from every team within the conference as selected by their coaches. These four teams will participate in three games, one against each conference team. There will also be a sophomore skills showcase for the additional talented sophomores in the conferences who are not participating in the all-star games.

WHAT KIND OF PLAYERS WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN THE ALL-STAR GAMES? Not only will be all-star teams have some of the most talented softball players each conference has to offer, but each participant will have at least 24 credit hours earned, with a minimum 2.0 GPA.

WHAT WILL THE SOPHOMORE SKILLS SHOWCASE CONSIST OF?

1. Running time from home to first.

2. Infield/Outfield defensive skills.

3. Catchers throw from home to second and second to third.

4. Batting Practice: Each player gets 10 swings.

5. Pitchers' Showcase: Each pitcher will be given five minutes to throw.

SCHEDULE (All times Eastern Standard)

10 a.m. - Panhandle All-Stars vs. Mid Florida All-Stars

10 a.m. - Suncoast All-Stars vs. Southern All-Stars

Noon - Showcase highlighting individual batting, fielding, running and pitching skills.

5 p.m. - Mid Florida All-Stars vs. Suncoast All-Stars

5 p.m. - Panhandle All-Stars vs. Southern All-Stars

7 p.m. - Panhandle All-Stars vs. Suncoast All-Stars

7 p.m. - Mid Florida All-Stars vs. Southern All-Stars
