Infield Drill

Equipment Needed: Ball & Glove.

Explanation of Drill: The purpose of the drill is to teach the athlete to "trust" her hands and to realize it is easier to stay low and to work up as compared to "stabbing" down to get the ball.

The infielder gets into perfect fielding position; feet wider than shoulder width, glove on the ground and in front of her eyes, back flat, throwing hand approximately four to six inches above the glove with fingers pointing upward. The partner is 10 feet away and throws a ball so it will bounce once, and bounce up and hit the infielder in the chest. The fielder keeps her glove on the ground as long as possible and at the last second, quickly raises her glove to field the ball.
