Maryland's Kelly Shipman Earns NFCA Player of the Week

University of Maryland pitcher Kelly Shipman is the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Player of the Week for the week of May 3-9.

Shipman, a senior from Huntingtown, Maryland, hit two home runs, posted her 1,000th career strikeout and won her school-record 28th game of the season as Maryland swept a doubleheader from Princeton on May 8. The Terps won the opener, 3-2 and earned an extra-innings, come-from-behind 4-3 victory in the second game. In the first game, Shipman struck out nine and gave up only three hits, taking a no-hitter into the seventh inning. In the second contest, she hit her school single-season record ninth home run, a two-run shot, to tie the score at two-all in the last of the seventh.

Shipman is only the eighth player in NCAA history to reach
the 1,000-strikeout plateau and she is the first player in Maryland and Atlantic Coast Conference softball history to do so.
