Arizona’s Fowler Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Freshman pitcher Kenzie Fowler of Arizona has been named as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for games played between March 8-14. 

Fowler went 4-0 on the week with 33 strikeouts, just nine hits and three walks. She allowed no runs and finished the week with a 0.00 ERA over 21.0 innings of work. 

The Tucson, Ariz., native struck out 17 batters and allowed just one hit in the Wildcats’ 6-0 win over Creighton. On the week, Fowler gave up no extra base hits and limited opponents to a miniscule .118 batting average. 

With her selection, Fowler becomes the first non-senior of the 2010 season to win the weekly honor. 

Fowler is off to a tremendous start in her first campaign for Arizona. The freshman is currently 15-0 on the year with a 0.84 ERA, 126 strikeouts and just 33 walks. 

The second-ranked Wildcats are currently 22-1 on the season and have won 15 consecutive games.

Danielle Lawrie of Washington batted .308 and had two wins in the circle, including a perfect game, as the Huskies won the Husky Softball Classic… Houston’s Angela Spittler paced her team to 6-0 week by going 11-for-15 with a .733 batting average… Kirsten Shortridge of LSU hit .727 with multiple hits in each of the three wins by the Tigers this week…
