Oklahoma State’s Whiddon Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior pitcher Anna Whiddon of Oklahoma State has been selected as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for games played between March 1-7. 

Whiddon started four games on the week, winning all four and finishing with 0.81 ERA and 30 strikeouts. She allowed just eight hits and three earned runs over 26.0 innings with two complete games and one shutout. Whiddon limited opponents to a batting average of .095 on the week and gave up just seven walks. 

The Huntington, Texas, native struck out 13 batters in the Cowgirls’ 7-2 win over No. 14 Louisville on Friday in Stillwater. On Saturday, the senior threw a one-hit shutout against archrival No. 12 Oklahoma and helped hand the Sooners just their third loss of the season. 

For the season, Whiddon is 11-2 with a 1.84 ERA and 73 strikeouts. 

No. 20 Oklahoma St., is currently 15-5 on the year and has won nine of its last 10 games. The only team able to defeat the Cowgirls during the stretch was No. 1 Washington.

Sara Plourde of Massachusetts won all five games for her team on the week with 51 strikeouts and a 0.93 ERA… Florida’s Francesca Enea had three grand slams to finish the week with a .563 batting average and 14 RBIs to pace the gators to a 4-1 week… Lauren Lindsey of Tulsa went 9-for-16 with three doubles and four home runs as the Golden Hurricane went 4-1… Danielle Lawrie of Washington as batted .308 and had three wins in the circle as the Huskies won the Hawaii Invitational… Arizona’s Brigette Del Ponte paced her team to 4-0 week by going 7-for-11 over four games, with a home run in each... Louisiana-Lafayette's Christi Orgeron hit .647 over five games with four doubles and three homers, as the Ragin' Cajuns went 4-1.
