UTEP’s Townsend Named Louisville Slugger/ NFCA Division I Player of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Senior pitcher/second baseman Stacie Townsend of UTEP has been named as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week for games played between Feb. 15-21.

Townsend excelled both at the plate and in the circle for the Miners last week and broke two school records in the process.

Offensively, Townsend went 7-for-13 over six games with a .538 batting average, 13 RBIs, nine runs, four home runs, two doubles and one stolen base. The Orlando, Fla., native homered twice during a 22-5 rout of New Mexico St., including her first career grand slam.

The four home runs last week allowed Townsend to become UTEP’s all-time leader in career home runs with 26. However, Townsend was not done breaking records for the week. Her 16 strikeouts against Central Arkansas set a new single-game mark for the Miners.

Through six appearances, Townsend ended her week with four starts, four complete games, three shutouts, a 1.35 ERA, 49 strikeouts and a perfect 6-0 record.

A single-game win over New Mexico St. and a five-game sweep of the QTI Getterman Classic pushes UTEP’s record to 7-3 on the year. The Miners are currently on a seven-game win streak.
