Tatiana Casis and Diana Sansevera Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week
Saint Leo 3B Tatiana Casis and Georgian Court’s Diana Sansevera have been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the NFCA announced on Wednesday. Both student-athletes are honored for their performances in the week ending March 8, 2009.
Tatiana Casis, a senior from Port St. Lucie, Fla., hit .636, going 14-for-22 over seven games with nine runs scored, 18 RBI, three doubles and four home runs, slugging 1.318 as she led the Lions to a 6-1 record. In a doubleheader against Salem International, Casis went a combined 7-for-7 with three home runs and 13 RBI. After going 4-for-4 in the opening game, Casis led the Saint Leo offense as the team scored 19 first-inning runs. In that first inning, Casis homered all three times she came to bat, including grand slams in each of her last two at-bats in the inning. That first inning alone totaled 10 RBI, setting an NCAA and Saint Leo all-time record.
As the week progressed, Casis had two hits, including a double and an RBI, against then-No. 4 Francis Marion. In Staint Leo’s win over Lenoir-Rhyne, Casis collected another RBI and a pair of singles, then finished the week by delivering the eventual game-winning three-run home run against Newberry. She added a double, two runs scored and three RBI to her week’s totals.
Diana Sansevera, a sophomore from Manalpan, N.J., went 4-1 with a save in the circle last week for Georgian Court at the Rebel Spring Games. Sansevera struck out 69 batters, averaging 7.0 per appearance including 10.6 strikeouts per start. In Georgian Court’s 4-3 nine-inning victory over Dowling College, Sansevera struck out 18. She went on to throw back-to-back shutouts against Lake Superior State and Bellarmine and closed out the week with a save in GCU’s win over California (PA), striking out nine during 3.2 innings of work.
Georgian Court moved from No. 20 to No. 12 in this week’s NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll.
