Stanford’s Ashley Hansen Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week

Stanford freshman Ashley Hansen has been selected as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday.

Hansen, a freshman from Chandler, Ariz., hit .667 last weekend, going 10-for-15 with five extra-base hits: three triples, a double and a three-run home run. With a weekend slugging percentage of 1.333, Hansen drove in nine Stanford runs over the four games of the Campbell/Cartier Classic in San Diego, helping the Cardinal to a perfect 4-0 record with wins over Utah State, UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State and host San Diego State.

The freshman shortstop posted at least two hits in each of the four games and scored at least one run in all four.

Against Long Beach State, Hansen hit her three-run home run to break open a one-run game. She went 3-for-3 off of 49er All-American Brooke Turner, driving in four runs. The following day against Utah State, the rookie hit two triples, including one with the bases loaded, and became just the third player in Stanford history to hit two triples in one game. Against then-No. T-24 San Diego State, Hansen was 2-for-4 with her third triple in 24 hours and two more RBI.

Stanford climbed from No. 8 to No. 5 in this week’s USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll.
