Brooke Turner Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week

Long Beach State freshman pitcher Brooke Turner (Buena Park, Calif.) has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week for the week ending March 2, it was announced on Tuesday.

Turner pitched 38 innings over five games last week, striking out 44 en route to a 4-1 record. Following a 1-0 loss to St. John’s in which she struck out nine and allowed just three hits, Turner handed then-No. 5 Florida its first loss of the season, pitching 10 innings and breaking her own school record with 16 strikeouts in the game.

She continued her strong week in the circle at the Eller Media Classic in Las Vegas, where she tossed a trio of three-hit shutouts against then-No. 15 Hawai’i, Western Kentucky and UNLV. Against the Wahine, Turner posted a second double-figure strikeout game with 10 K’s against Hawai’i.

The Big West’s Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season, Turner finished the week with a 4-1 record, 0.37 ERA and 44 strikeouts while walking five and allowing 17 hits and two runs.

On the season, Turner now has an 8-2 record with a 0.59 ERA, 71.0 IP and 89 strikeouts.
