Scarborough Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I Player of the Week

Texas A&M pitcher/infielder Amanda Scarborough has been named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for the week of March 14-20, it was announced by the association on Wednesday.

Scarborough, a freshman from Magnolia, Texas, helped lead the Aggies to a 5-0 record and the tournament title with an MVP performance at the Florida Atlantic Parent's Weekend Classic.

"This is an exciting award for Amanda," stated Texas A&M head coach Jo Evans. "She has been great for us all season and she seemed unstoppable in the circle and in the batters box last weekend. She is an outstanding athlete and is certainly deserving of this honor."

For the week, she went 3-0 in the circle while giving up just five hits and compiling a 0.00 ERA. At the plate, she was 7-for-15 (.467) with seven runs scored.

In the championship game against Michigan State, Scarborough tossed a complete game no-hitter, walking just one batter while facing the minimum. She also threw a six-inning no-hitter earlier in the tournament against the Spartans.

"I am very honored to receive this award, especially considering all the great performances last week," Scarborough commented. "It is exciting to be recognized but I am just happy to be able to contribute to the success of our team."

Against Wisconsin, Scarborough went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs scored. She scattered four hits in a complete game, 6-1 victory over Florida International.
