NFCA Announces 2010 NWAACC Individual Awards

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The NFCA is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2010 NWACC adidas Golden Shoe award, Diamond Catcher of the Year award and Coaching Staff of the Year award. 

Mt. Hood’s Bre Thomas has earned the 2010 NWAACC adidas Golden Shoe award, presented annually to the league’s top base stealer. Thomas stole 26 bases this season and has a 49-for-50 record in her two-year career as a Saint. 

Shaila Rivers of Walla Walla has been named the 2010 NWAACC Diamond Catcher of the Year. Rivers is currently batting .471 on the season with 38 runs off of 58 hits with two doubles, two home runs and 33 RBIs. Rivers, who was recently selected as a 2010 Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-American, helped guide the Warriors to a 28-17 record this season and played an integral role in helping her team earn a berth into the 2010 NWAACC Championships. 

This year’s Coaching Staff of the Year award has been awarded to head coach Jessica Buel and her staff at Clackamas. Buel, who is assisted by Denise Nasuta and Dustin Bare, led the Cougars to a 29-10 record this season and the South Division regular season title.
