Concordia-St. Paul’s Rodd & Wayne State’s Hanes Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Players of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Concordia-St. Paul senior Tiffani Rodd and Wayne St. (MI) senior Casey Hanes have been named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played between April 5 and April 11, 2010. 

Rodd went 12-for-17 last week with six runs, 11 RBIs, three home runs, two doubles, three walks and two sacrifice flies. She finished the week with a .706 batting average, a 1.353 slugging percentage and a .682 on-base percentage. 

The Cloquet, Minn., native hit safely in all six of her games last week and hit multiple times in five of six of those contests. She also blasted home runs in back-to-back games to help lead the Golden Bears to a doubleheader sweep of Minnesota State Moorehead. 

After finishing last week at 5-1, Concordia is currently 20-8 overall and sits in sole possession of second place in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference at 8-2. 

Hanes went 4-0 last week allowing just 16 hits, one earned run, 10 walks and 41 strikeouts over 30.1 innings of work. She finished the week with a 0.23 ERA, four complete games and two shutouts. 

The native of Richmond, Va., pitched a two-hit gem against Ashland and struck out 10 or more batters on three separate occasions. Hanes disallowed any extra base hits by her opponents last week while limiting them to just a .156 batting average. 

The 16th-ranked Warriors, who went 5-1 last week, are currently 31-8 on the year and 7-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

Rachel Spaccarotelli of Wayne St. (MI) hit three homeruns in consecutive innings while going 8-for15 on the week… Quincy’s Torie Bunzell threw a perfect game and a no-hitter while striking out 52 to propel her team to five wins… Breanne Gleason of New Haven went 3-0 on the week with a save while allowing just one run over 21.2 innings… Adelphi’s Emily Dorko hit .667 on the week while blasting a grand slam and driving in 10 runs.
