Texas’ Luna Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Freshman pitcher Blaire Luna of Texas has been named as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division I National Player of the Week for games played between March 29 and April 4.

Luna helped lead Texas to victories in all five of its games on the week by picking up three wins and two saves. The true freshman allowed just six hits, seven walks and no runs over 23.2 innings of work while striking out 46 batters, allowing just one extra base hit and limiting opposing batters to a .078 batting average.

The hometown product recorded two complete game shutouts last week to go along with three 10 or more strikeout performances. Luna fanned 14 batters in game one of a doubleheader with Big 12 foe Kansas and then sat down 12 batters each against Texas State and in the second game of the Kansas twin bill.

Through 28 appearances this season, Luna has gone 18-4 with four saves, a 0.96 ERA and 222 strikeouts.

The 16th-ranked Longhorns are currently 31-8 overall on the year and have a perfect 4-0 record in Big 12 action. Texas is also on a seven-game winning streak and has won eight of its last 10 games.
