New Haven’s Downs & Georgian Court’s Sansevera Named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Players of the Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – New Haven senior Nicole Downs and Georgian Court junior Diana Sansevera have been named Louisville Slugger/NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played March 22-28. 

Downs helped lead the Chargers to a 6-0 week by going 11-for-13 with nine runs, five RBIs, one double, three home runs, eight walks, no strikeouts and one stolen base. 

The Seymour, Conn., native ended the week with a .846 batting average, a 1.148 slugging percentage and an incredible.870 on-base percentage. She blasted two home runs in game one of a doubleheader with NYIT and went 7-for-8 in her team’s sweep of conference foe Le Moyne. 

Sansevera earned three wins in three starts for Georgian Court this week, all while allowing just 15 hits, two earned run and three walks to go along with 40 strikeouts. 

The Manalapan, N.J., struck out 13 or more batters in each of her appearances on the week, fanning 14 against Adelphi and 13 in games with Holy Family and Bloomfield. She ended the week with a 0.67 ERA and one shutout against Holy Family. 

The 15th-ranked New Haven Chargers will enter the weekend with a 14-2 record and a 10-game winning streak, while the Lions of Georgian Court are currently 16-6 on the year and have won seven of their last 10.

Ariel Lichtenberger of Texas A&M-Kingsville led her team to a 5-2 record by blasting six home runs on nine hits… Grand Canyon’s Teddy Barry batted .558 with four homeruns as the Antelopes went 9-2… Sam Ingersoll of West Chester drove in 18 runs and hit seven doubles over an 8-0 week… Hawaii Pacific’s Sherise Musquiz went 6-0 with a save while allowing just three earned runs… Katie Petersen of Midwestern State earned three win for her team by allowing just two earned runs while striking out 39 batters… North Georgia’s Sarah Phillips pushed her record to 25-0 on the year by fanning 26 batters over four wins…
