Field Set for National Invitational Championship
MACOMB, IL - With 18 NCAA Division I universities committed to participate, the pool-play schedule has been set for the 1999 State Farm National Invitational Championship.
Eighteen games will take place between six pools on Friday, September 24, followed by a championship format tournament on Saturday and Sunday, September 25-26, to determine first through sixth places in each bracket.
With 18 teams divided into six pools, each team will play two games on Friday. The winner of each pool, based on win-loss record, will be placed in the Gold Bracket for Saturday and Sunday's tournament. The second-place teams from each pool will comprise the Silver Bracket, and the third-place teams will face each other in the Bronze Bracket. Ties within a pool will be broken based on head-to-head competition, run differential, fewest runs allowed and most runs scored.
Teams will be seeded within the tournament brackets based on record. Ties will be broken by run differential, fewest runs allowed and most runs scored. Each bracket will have a champion, however, the winner of the Gold Bracket will be the 1999 NIC champion, determined at 2:00 pm on Sunday.
After 18 games on Friday, 15 will be played on Saturday. Four games each will take place at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Three games have been scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, three games will be played at 10 p.m. and two are scheduled for noon. The championship game will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday. All games will take place at the Green Valley Softball Complex in Moline, IL.
