STARKVILLE, Miss. – Adams State senior Jaycee Lovato and Sonoma State sophomore Samantha Lipperd have been named as the NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played from Feb. 7-13, 2011. 

Lovato had a big week for the Grizzlies as she went 8-for-16 with eight runs, 14 RBI, one double, three home runs, a walk and a stolen base. In addition, she finished the week with a 1.125 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage. 

However, the Northglenn, Colo., natives biggest feat on the week was tying Adam State’s Division II era single-game record by recording eight RBI in the Grizzlies’ 16-8 win over Upper Iowa. Lovato also tied the program record for home runs in a game in the same contest by going yard twice, including a grand slam. 

With a 4-1 record on opening weekend at Montana-Billings’ Desert Stinger Classic, Adams State is off to one of the best starts in recent program history and received votes in this week’s NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll. 

Lipperd went 2-0 last week and allowed no earned runs off of two hits with just one walk and 23 strikeouts. She also ended the week with a 0.00 ERA and an opponent batting average of .043 percent. 

In a thrilling 10-inning win over Cal State East Bay, the native of Boulder Creek, Calif., threw seven perfect innings before finally giving up a hit in the eighth inning. She ended the game with an astounding 15 strikeouts. 

The Seawolves are also off to great beginning to the 2011 season as they currently stand at 7-2 on the year and are also receiving votes in the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 poll. 

Other Top Performances
Megan Carrillo of Western Washington hit for the cycle on the week while helping her team to a 5-0 start… Texas A&M-Kingsville’s Lindsey Brown threw a complete game shutout againstNo. 23 Midwestern St. en route to a 2-0 week … Brittany Yates of St. Leo drove in eight runs on the week and had two game-winning hits, including a home run… Kayln Loverich of Flagler had two shutouts in three games and finished the week with 17 strikeouts.
