Georgia Remains No. 1 Team In USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll For 3rd Straight Week

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Another undefeated week from the Georgia Bulldogs (17-1) proved enough to turn back another tough challenge from Florida and remain the No. 1 team in the land for third straight week, according to the latest USA Today/NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll that was released by the association on Tuesday.

Despite receiving 20 first place votes compared to just eight by the second-ranked Gators (19-0), Georgia only finished this week’s voting five points ahead of its SEC rival. The rest of the top five was also unchanged as Alabama (20-1), Arizona (19-2) and Washington (16-0) all held onto to third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

Making their first appearances of 2011 in the poll this week were No. 23 Baylor and No. 25 Syracuse. The ranking is the first for the Bears (19-2) since Mar. 22 of last year when they were ranked 25th, while Syracuse’s ranking marks the first time in program history that the Orange (16-3) have been featured in the weekly poll.

Leaving the rankings this week were No. 23 Fresno State and No. 25 Houston, both of which still received votes in the current edition of the poll.
