West Texas A&M’s LeComte and Grand Canyon’s Linert Named NFCA Division II National Player & Pitcher of the Week
STARKVILLE, Miss. – West Texas A&M junior Kimberly LeComte and Grand Canyon junior Kirsten Linert have been named as the NFCA Division II National Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for games played Feb. 28-Mar. 6, 2011.
LeComte had a big week for the Buffs and helped them extend their current winning streak to 14 games. She finished her team’s four games by going 7-for-12 with nine runs, 10 RBI, a double, a triple, a home run and five stolen bases. For the week, LeComte hit .583, slugged 1.33 and had an on-base percentage of .667.
The Boerne, Texas outfielder turned in outstanding performances all week, but none more so than her eight RBI performance against Eastern New Mexico in which she became the first player in program history to hit for the cycle. In her perfect 4-for-4 performance against the Greyhounds, LeComte completed her cycle in reverse order, beginning with a homerun and ending with a single.
No. 6 West Texas A&M went 4-0 last week in their own Lady Buff Invitational, sweeping Eastern New Mexico and Washburn. This week, the Buffs will try to keep their winning streak alive when they travel to San Antonio for a non-conference doubleheader with St. Mary’s and three-game conference set with Incarnate Word.
Linert went 3-0 last week with three shutouts as the ‘Lopes played six games in Hawai’i. She finished the week with a 0.00 ERA, 23 strikeouts and an opponent’s batting average of .127, all while allowing just nine hits, five walks and no runs.
The Phoenix, Ariz., native tossed a one-hitter against BYU-Hawaii on Thursday and finished the game by striking out 12 of the 22 batters she faced. Two days earlier, Linert threw a four-hit, complete game shutout to help lead Grand Canyon by fifth-ranked Hawaii Pacific, 1-0.
The ‘Lopes wrapped up their eight-game trip to Hawaii by going 5-3 to open PacWest conference play. This week, Grand Canyon will continue conference play when they host a doubleheader with Dixie State on Saturday.
