Alabama-Huntsville Continues Reign On Top of NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll

Alabama-Huntsville

STARKVILLE, Miss. – For the fourth consecutive week, Alabama Huntsville is the No. 1 team in the nation, according to the latest NFCA Division II Top 25 poll released by the Association on Wednesday.

The Chargers (35-1-1) received 15 of 16 first place votes in the latest poll and finished 30 points ahead of their nearest competition. The only change to the top five this week happened at the two and three spots, with North Georgia (47-9) moving up to second and Midwestern State dropping to third, despite receiving one first-place vote. The rest of the top five remained unchanged with Valdosta (31-6) and Rollins (42-2) coming in at fourth and fifth, respectively, for the second straight week.

In one of the more odd statistical anomalies that comes with ranking teams, there was an astounding three ties in this week’s edition of the poll. Dowling (31-2) and Lenoir-Rhyne (37-8) knotted at 251 points for the eighth spot, while Augustana (33-6) and Minnesota State Mankato (35-8) each finished with 205 points in 12th. The final tie came at the 21st spot as both Western Washington (30-9) and Indianapolis (27-10-1) each picked up 69 points.

The lone newcomer this week was Tiffin (27-10), which makes its first appearance in the poll, at 25th, since transitioning to Division II in 2008. Tiffin’s inclusion in the poll meant that last week’s No. 22, Armstrong Atlantic (30-12), was the only team to fall out of the rankings this week.

The NFCA Division II Top 25 Poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
