The Woodlands Still No. 1 in the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25

NFCASTARKVILLE, Miss. - A new week brought multiple changes to the USA Today/NFCA High School Top 25, which was released Thursday by the Association. Most of the rotation took place in the 11 through 20 slots, where five different teams fell last week. The Woodlands (Texas) remains the nation’s top ranked-team for a fourth straight week.

The Woodlands improved to 30-0 with pair of victories over Oak Ridge (15-0) and Kingwood (7-1). Nine of the nation’s top ten teams were unbeaten this past week with No. 10 Valencia (California, 15-2) falling from fourth to 10th after being the only upset victim.

No. 2 American Heritage (Florida, 21-0) finished off an undefeated regular season with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Park Vista. The Patriots scored twice in the seventh inning to escape. No. 3 Alexander Central (North Carolina, 15-0) won three times this past week, including a perfect game and no-hitter from Chelsea Wilkinson.

In the second ten, Etiwanda (California), Lake Norman (North Carolina) and Frisco Wakeland (Texas) remained ranked despite losses. Esperanza (California) and Soddy Daisy (Tennessee) were not as fortunate.

Poll newcomers included No. 17 Northern (Maryland, 9-0); No. 18 Poland Seminary (Ohio, 7-0); No. 22 Elk Grove (Illinois, 10-1); No. 24 Glencoe (Oregon, 13-0) and No. 25 Sparkman (Alabama, 36-2). Sparkman beat then No. 24-Dothan 2-0 this past week.
